carmilla is like if Dracula went on a girls’ trip but got sidetracked by a dramatic, clingy crush. This little gothic gem (and a classic, by the way) gives us a mysterious (read: super shady) vampiress, carmilla, who’s basically the original queen of the ‘I just want to be really close friends’ vibe with poor, clueless laura.

it’s spooky but not hide-under-the-covers spooky — more like ‘i’m mildly concerned about this friendship’ spooky. a quick, enjoyable read that won’t make you lose any sleep over.
