Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

Unread shelf project 2021: book 89.

I… did not like this book.

Through no fault of the author, though — I think my dislike comes from how horrible Alix was and also, how difficult it was for me to connect to any of the other characters. Briar was written phenomenally though, she basically stole the show for any of the scenes in which she was present. I never felt like I got to know Emira but I despised Alix and tbh, I also despised Kelly. Blechhh.

But overall a very thought provoking commentary on racism, social justice, and how white people can mess shit up with oblivious, covert racism. Self awareness, a dab of narcissism, a lack of critical thinking, and the fact that racism is rampant in our society all played a part.
