I was so hopeful when I realized it was going to be one of my favorite horror/thriller tropes (“the call is coming from inside the house”), but alas. The red herrings start out good but after the entirely contrived and poorly done twist, it would have been better if the red herrings were real. The twist isn’t believable with how everything has been set up, and the plotting is weird and uneven (we take like 300 pages to set up and the last 35 are the conclusion?? Ugh). The beginning and middle are very promising and entertaining despite the very romance novel-style writing, but it goes downhill very quickly.
