I understand the criticisms of this book, about it being homophobic and fat-phobic. As I read the story, I imagined it as an anime from the early 1990s (which it was) and that helped it all make more sense. (Not that it makes those sentiments okay, but it gives them context.) I enjoyed it well enough for what it is.
Moderate: Fatphobia, Homophobia, Mental illness, Rape, Sexism, Toxic relationship, and Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Minor: Body shaming, Bullying, Confinement, Misogyny, and Panic attacks/disorders
