Reckless by Elsie Silver

4.0

4 🌟’s because I LOVED Theo in this and was giggling kicking my feet every time he spoke. I enjoyed Winter’s character but it felt super disconnected to the way she was introduced in Flawless. I think jumping from the first night with Theo to her living in Chestnut Springs & already having the baby be 9mnths missed sooooooo much development for her character and honestly centred her healing around a man which I kinda hate (even if it was swoony as hell). I also wish Theo’s grief about his father and Winter’s grief about her miscarriage was included; those felt like foundational parts of their family-building narrative that really weren’t present at all, but I get that that’s maybe not the type of book Elsie Silver writes. I won’t lie and say I didn’t eat this book up completely, but retrospectively with 400 pages it honestly felt like it could’ve gone a lot deeper and I kinda can’t comprehend how I sat through 400 pages of Winter basically repeatedly deciding she wasn’t good enough for Theo while he was dad-ing it up and doing nothing but showing commitment to her. Still super swoony and super hot, just definitely kinda surface-level and missed a pretty good opportunity to explore more complex emotions.
