Review of Ashen City by Sara Baysinger

Rating: 5/5 stars

First of all, let me say that this book... This book has a huge cliffhanger. I was expecting everything, but not that. You did an amazing job Sara. You left me without words, and that doesn't happen often.
If it is possible, I loved Ashen City even more than Black Tiger, 5 stars are actually not enough to fully express how much I loved this book.

Let me tell you a bit about the book: in Black Tiger we were firstly introduced to the Community Garden and the Orchard, the places where Ember was raised, and Frankfort, a heaven-like city, where Ember was held captive by Chief Whitcomb and where almost all the story developed (and I have to stop there for those who haven't read book 1. BUT GUYS BELIEVE ME, there's a major plot twist there. Read to believe). In Ashen City, we're finally introduced to the Resurgence's quarters, a huge cavern completely hidden from view. If in book 1 the story developed almost only in Frankfort, book 2 has a variety of places never seen before and I loved it.
Now on to the characters:

Rain is finally dealing with his feelings, Ember is finally finding herself and her purpose in life and Forest... Gosh Forest. It's no secret that I despised him in book 1. Well, I'm a weirdo, because I should have liked him, but I never did. My heart had always belonged to Rain, cold, heartless, puppeteer-like Rain. Forest wasn't my type. And he still wasn't here. But you know what the proverb says.... Oh wait. I can't tell you the proverb otherwise I'd spoil you everything. Just know this: I finally felt a spark of love for him. But only a tiny bit. And last but not least, my hatred for Chief Whitcomb turned out into... Disgust. Surprise, surprise, we're also introduced to a new character... A huge new character, the nucleus of the novel, I'd dare say.

Super fast paced, full of action and #steam moments (my babies), this book will likely give you chills.... For what concerns me, it gave me a heart attack. Can't wait for book 3 which is coming out on July 6th! Oh and btw, if I were you Sara... I would write a novella from the point of view of Rain. That would be sooooooooo interesting. I'd love to know what has always been on his mind *desperately trying to convince the author to write more Rain scenes* okay, better stop now!
