Wow. This book was incredibly triggering and honestly made me feel like I was going to pass out at the end as I processed the events of the story in the context I am living in right now.I couldn’t stop thinking about Meital or the Weiss family. Widowhood, tragedy, and plane crashes all in just a few pages was really nearly too much. My heart actively aches, and it really did make me dizzy, especially the moments where Evie was getting the news of the crash.
As for the rest of the book, I thought the writing was beautiful, and though I wasn’t always inclined to pick it up, I found myself entirely immersed in the story and the writing from the beginning. I was curious to see how the perspectives and timelines would merge, and they did so beautifully—I just can’t quite get past the physical response to the triggers.
This was an unbelievable book, and I think it could be recommended widely, but my personal reaction to it makes me hesitate.
The Idea of You - a whirlwind love story that goes into unexpected depth and sadness
Daisy Jones and The Six - a retrospective on a fictional band from the point of view of the next generation
City of Girls - love lost and found, detailing a life of adventure in a long-form letter
