“And when he’d pleaded with me to touch him, damn. I would’ve jumped into a pit of fire for him right then. The draw to be near him was that overwhelming.”

Girard and Mason’s story was great. Even though this is the 2nd book in the series this is the 1st one I read. I’m not opposed to reading books out of order in a series. I liked that this was new for both of them. I wouldn’t say this is enemies to lovers, it is just that Mason is just so walled off his grump attitude can seem like hate to dislike. I enjoyed getting to see Girard break down that wall around him, and the two of them become friends to lovers. Mason had me crying, because his relationship with his “dad” was awful and I felt so bad for him. Fuck that guy for real. I was glad Girard and his family were there to show Mason that people do care about him.

4.5 - because I needed more relationship building to for the love confession to feel more believable.
