I have bitter feelings about this book. The author has a knack for writing completely unlikeable characters both in The Perfect Marriage and this book.

She does a great job of building suspense which is the only reason to keep reading.

This might be controversial to say, but I feel like this author likes to check boxes as she writes and it’s pretty much always done in an insulting way. Use a certain buzz word or hot topic? Check. Have diverse but otherwise uninteresting side characters? Check. Follow as many clichés or popular TV tropes as possible? Check.

The characters, especially in this book, are cartoony and one-dimensional.  There’s a lot of cringe-speak.

But the author does tell a story that is entertaining in itself if you accept it for what it is. Unlikeable characters with ridiculous plots and motives. It’s camp.
