While I loved Croucher's previous book based on mythology, this one was not as good as I had hoped. However, it was still a fairly easy read with interesting characters.
The first 50% of the book is so incredibly slow that I was getting easily distracted even when I wanted to pay attention, which is most of the reason for the rating of this book. The last half has the plot, action, and romance and should have been more/most of the book! Our MCs don't feel fleshed out until then, making it hard to care for them in the first half.
However, once I started to care about the characters and the plot took off, I became incredibly interested in the fascinating world Croucher created with this story. By showing us a post-robin hood Merry Men dealing with corruption and politics, Croucher gave us mystery and intrigue, especially as our cast of characters learns more truths about their life.
The romance wasn't the most interesting part of this book, but it was nice to see our characters grow to care for each other throughout the plot and see how it impacted their choices. I adored the side characters in this book, and Morgan was by far my favorite. I got very emotionalwhen Baxter died.
I'm still interested in reading more of Croucher's work, even if this wasn't the best! They do such amazing worldbuilding!
