The Complete Stories by Clarice Lispector

5.0

I started reading this a long, long time ago and decided to parse it out because I was enjoying it so much and also because short stories when read all at once feel very decadent. But reading Clarice Lispector is also very decadent, and there's not a lot of treats in quarantine, so this was a good thing to pick up now. She delivers delirium in a matter of fact way, and love very viscerally, and all her metaphors and similes are very very good -- people are always feeling some emotion in their whole body, their desires flashing like gold coins - my favourite description was a woman who 'resembled a howl' after meeting a lover from Saturn. this is both ordinary + extraordinary --- high recommend.
