Something That May Shock and Discredit You by Daniel M. Lavery

emotional medium-paced

4.0

only sometimes similar to the rest of the author's oeuvre, more memoir-ish and personal. the storygraph description is not accurate at all; this is a memoir about the author's transition and emotional evolution. the occasional unrelated humor/pop culture segments come off as a little patchy. some hit better than others. his repeated descriptions of his "maladaptive fantasies" remind me a lot of David Sedaris, specifically the essay where Sedaris describes several soothing fantasies he has while consumed with insomnia due to his recent sobriety.
