Intermezzo by Sally Rooney

5.0

Vivid, Moving, and everything I expected it to be and more. Intermezzo is an exquisite exploration of grief, love, and the family ties that bind us. Two brothers, Peter & Ivan, with only a bloodline in common grapple with the sudden loss of their father and the gap between what was once a close bond. This book feels as if it will vault Rooney into the stars of literary authors. With tongue and cheek critiques of the wage gap, Dublin housing crisis and not so hidden threads of existentialism woven throughout, Intermezzo feels like a shift in Rooney's writing, one that will change the lit world for the better. It leaves you aching to ask the bigger questions, and leaves you optimistic, and in love with every person you've ever known.
