My enjoyment of this book was heavily impacted by a situation mentioned at the end of the review. I will try to make the review as unbiased as I can.
I really loved getting back into the story! All of the complicated family trees are super fun to unravel. I'd love to try to get it on paper if nobody has yet. I do think that objectively i enjoyed this a little less than the first. There were fewer puzzles and just more drama. I wanted to explore more of the house mysteries. I found it to be unpredictable in a way that wasn't super enjoyable compared to the previous comfort of clues that actually did lead to a truth. There was a lot of information in this one, and as it regards to Averyit was all red herrings.
I do think it would make a GREAT TV show or one film per book situation.
This book mentioned a VERY heavy topic in passing for me. As a new medical trauma in my life, I hadn't yet flagged it as a warning and didnt know not to read this right now. While it didn't play a big part of the story, having it mentioned twice was really really rough as I am actively experiencing the pain and trauma that comes with the situation. If you'd like to know what it is i will mark it in spoiler tags. miscarriage This mere mention made me have a hard time with this book.
