What the duck. Like… the ending is so vague that it hurts more than if there had been a definitive answer. Honestly? I wouldn’t have read this book if I knew a big part of it is the main character Ryan grieving the 5 year anniversary of her fathers death. Bc wow JES did really well with the emotions- I can honestly say as I just passed five years without my mom. It’s heartbreaking and I can see the pain Ryan feels so well, it’s really well written even if it hurts.
The sports aspect was done better than I think a lot of sports books do where it isn’t just sprinkled in it’s actually important and I think it’s cute how a lot of the relationships in the book tie back to the Cubs.
Overall a decent read but not my favorite from JES. And the ending… just give me a solid answer so I know if I should be sad.
