A Blossom at Midnight by A.L. Knorr

2.0

The plot is SLOW-slow, but descriptive with an interesting take on magic, and there are parts of this book I didn't like. The Calyx and their sweat perfume was... well, I cringed. I still don't understand the benefit vs. risk on sending the Calyx to dance, make flowers, and spray sweat perfume at a pissed off kingdom in mourning.

For being so long, the love interests lack chemistry. They don't know each other longer than a few days. I looked into this series before reading so I had an idea that there was no spice before reading and so far that has held true, but there's not much else in most this book other than descriptive world building.

There's finally a good action scene towards the end and politics are emerging. I will give it 2 stars, because it is really well written and descriptive in a way you can picture what the author is trying to portray. I was bored though. Maybe it's not to my taste? I'll keep reading through the series in hope it will win me over in the end because I think the author deserves a chance.
