My first Stephen King novel! After consulting lists of where to start, I settled on Salem’s Lot. Most view it as an archetypal King story with an easy to understand central threat and all the trappings the author has become famous for, even if it’s not quite the best. I liked it but got a little restless towards the end. The first half was quite strong but when the threat revealed itself in full, I found myself slightly disinterested. Still, I got what I wanted from the novel and that’s a foundation on King’s stylistic traits and thematic concerns. I will be back for more.
