The Muse's Undoing by August Jones

5.0

Matthew • Fischer

“No one does to me what he can do. No one else has ever made me feel like my breath depends on his breath, like my fate is entangled in his. Like I am hopelessly lost within another person I have no control of.”

.

“He’s not only a muse, but he’s my muse. He’s foundational. He’s inside me and he drives me, and this has been true from the moment he reached for my hand in bed that first time. I’m irrevocably obsessed.”

You want to find out what happens when adopted brothers bond so deeply and become mutually “quietly yours” while during one’s recovery? This book is the personification of that. Nothing for them from that moment was easy. Acceptance, understanding. But wouldn’t you do anything for your person? Wouldn’t you want it to be real? All that’s holy codependency. I mean, no one, no one writes codependency like August does. No one. You feel the uniqueness and diversity of each character - every - single - time.

I had so many favorite moments while reading but one that will forever stay in my mind is the glass tree. The representation of it, that final moment.

Don’t go into this book expecting it to be what you have read before from the Author. Each book stands on its own. Each book with its own greatness. It’s a privilege to be part of that village.

I am not going to summarize the blurb for you all but in a few words I can tell you what to expect: care; passion; fury; humanity; retraction; sensibility; yearning; inclination.

Ps. I’m sorry August but Gavin needs a story. If he wasn’t in the plans. How much do we have to pay for it? With body parts? 💀.

“Just to clarify: are we friends still, or was that just a fever dream?” // “I’m obsessed with beauty, but I find beauty in all forms, and I love to revel in it. Consume it with my mind and body.” // “Our movements like a well-choreographed dance, making space for each other.” // “I was just listening.” // “If we aren’t already, I’m pretty sure we’ll be bonded for life after this.” // “…and I’ll never stop missing those days when I could reach back and find his hand any time I needed it. He was my silver lining.” // “And I’m not sorry.” // “My mouth goes dry, and I’m positive my eyes are black holes as I look at the hottest, most depraved thing I’ve ever seen.” // “You’re everything.” // “Just trying to save my sanity, that’s all.” // “Like I wanted to wear your clothes. I wanted to be your favorite. I wanted to share a cone of ice cream with you.” // “I’m trying to chain you to my soul.” // “I get it now. It’s him.” // “I just know his heart. And I love it more than anything.” // “You’re a whole person… Maybe we just happen to share a heart.” …
