I love this book way better than "The girl with all the gifts", which, in my opinion, was half baked. This book, on the other hand, couldn't be more perfect. I highly recommend it.
In a nutshell, This book was pretty strange, creepy and dark. It went to all the places I didn't think it would. There was so much going on in this book; there were druggies, drug trafficking, murders, court drama and most importantly ghosts.
Jess moulson had pleaded guilty for the murder she had no memory of committing, but the world around her had made her believe that she, somehow, was responsible for the death of an innocent child.
"Facts are in the outside world. You can verify them with your sense or objective tests. Truth is something people build inside their heads, using the facts as raw marerial. And sometimes the facts get bent or broken in the process."
In prison, to punish and free herself of the guilt she had been feeling, she declared a hunger strike. Little did she know that someone was there, with her, in her cell who wanted her to live. It's Alex- the kid she allegedly killed. Alex had forgotten everything, and he wanted to remember who he was and who killed him. He needed help that only Jess could provide.

Alex made her see that she wasn't responsible for his death but someone else was. someone who needed to be held accountable. Jess makes it her life's mission to get out of the prison and find out the real culprit. But was Alex real? Or someone she made it up to comfort herself? And if the ghost was real, was it really a ghost of Alex or someone else? Did she shape the ramshackled body she saw in her dream into Alex? These questions haunts you till the very end.
Besides all this drama there was something else going on too, in the prison. The prison- fellside- was ruled by grace and delvin, who were using the inmates for drug trafficking. Those who tried to stand in the way of grace and delvin ended up dead so everyone follows their order now without questioning.
All these stories connects in the end and makes for a extremely terrifying and shocking climax.
The only complaint I have from this book is that it had too many characters and sometimes those characters were called with their first names, sometimes with their last names and sometimes with their nick names, It was hard to keep up, and it took me a while to get into the prison drama, I was more interested in jess's story.
If you are into horror, psychological thrillers and court drama you should definitely check this book out.
