The Bookshop of Second Chances by Jackie Fraser

4.0

Lots of ups and downs in my feelings about this book, but as a whole it left me with a strong positive feeling.

This feels like a diamond in the rough situation. From the beginning, there were quotes I enjoyed. I find the character inner dialogue to be very relatable. But, the character/relationship development was a bit awkward. I was in this weird spot, where I felt like I enjoyed the overall writing style; but had no emotional connection with the characters.

But; wait. Once this book turned on, I was riveted. As much as I love to read, I struggle with focus, but this book flipped a switch and I found myself pouring through sections.

But, then we would get a little silly again. Eh. It’s no lie that there are multiple tropes here, and predictable elements. BUT, the delightful, awkward, painful, giddy thoughts of the characters absolutely brings you in. Well, it did me. I liked how unpolished it felt. It made it feel so real.

Plus, this is a “romance” free of any weird euphemisms! For me, it was more about personal journeys than anything else, and I guess I’m a sucker for that kind of thing. I will absolutely read more of this authors work, once she has some :)
