Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

5.0

I picked up this novel without the knowledge that it was a series. I was in love within the first few pages. Although Gabaldon tends to drag things out, this first novel was so immersive and driving. The characters are the single best part of this series. You fall in love immediately with the protagonist Claire, and will be so invested into her journey. This story stays away from all the cliques of romance and is immersed in history. The later novels cannot hold a candle to this. My only negative is that Gabaldon does tend to drag out events, and over embellish certain things. I find myself scanning, especially towards the ending.
