Along the Way: The Journey of a Father and Son. by Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez by Martin Sheen, Hope Edelman, Emilio Estevez

emotional funny informative reflective medium-paced

4.5

This was a wonderful read. I enjoyed it far more than I expected to. A lot of the celebrity memoirs I’ve read have been hits and a lot have been misses. I’ve question the necessity of some. I don’t remember why I picked this one up but I’m so glad I did. Sheen and Estevez have both lived fascinating lives in regards to both their personal and work lives. They’ve had a lot of ups and downs. Hope Edelman does a truly tremendous job of putting their stories together in a book that is funny, sad, heartwarming, and informative.

I think it goes without saying that sometimes celebrity books can come across as just a space to name drop and brag about their work and their acquaintances. Sheen and Estevez have worked with PEOPLE. I laughed out loud at the names that were mentioned in this book. Not because it was funny but because I was just astounded at the caliber. And you know what? It all felt just so natural. Everything flowed and felt right and good. I loved this book, definitely one of the best biographies I’ve read this year.
