Mechanica by Betsy Cornwell

4.0

If you're looking for the traditional romance in fairytale retellings this isn't the book for you. It's more a coming of age story about a girl gaining independence and making a life for herself. It was interesting enough although not one of my favorites. I could really relate to Mechanica. I think she was well written. I think I didn't like it as much only based on a personal preference for dialogue and relationships. Mechanica was isolated and alone for much of the book. It's full of her thoughts and daily activities. It is worth the read though. I'm glad I read it. The authors voice is well done.

I like that the author advocated (or seemed to) for girls in STEM, without putting down the arts or other crafts like sewing. She seemed to have an appreciation for both.
