A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid

3.0

3.5/5
I was doubting between 3 or 4, because I actually did enjoy reading this story and it definitely has good bones. But I think I've become too old and too nitpicky to award it with a 4/5.
For one, when do these characters eat? No, seriously, I've read stories of fairy kings and fantastic characters and realms before but people still eat there. It's like I couldn't make any sense of the timing in the story because of this lack of food. Also, please stop swallowing pills without water, Effy. You might choke! For Saints' sake.
Luckily, I like a well-wrapped up story and Reid delivered in that aspect. Some elements were even a bit surprising, and others were predictable but I don't mind that. In all, it's a decent story about how male egos destroy things and women start to rise up. Not very veiled, but why should it be?
