Boundless, by Cynthia Hand

3.0

So book 3 of this series showed up at the library, and as soon as I started reading I realised that I'd pretty much forgotten whatever happened in books 1 and 2. Oh well. The important parts: Clara's part angel; so are half the people she knows; there's something of a love triangle that just won't die.

Boundless takes Clara to a couple of scary places, starting with college. Love Interest #2 is there, along with Clara's friend (and fellow angelblood) Angela. (Minor miracle for three students from the same Wyoming high school to get into Stanford? But okay.) Angela's nursing a secret, Clara's nursing a heartache, and a fallen angel is still on their tail.

I've enjoyed this series and probably would have loved it as a teen, but it also hasn't left all that much of an impression. I'm left with some questions about their purposes...Jeffrey's purpose is never really explained; I hate the idea that Angela basically existed to
Spoilerbring another triplare into being
; and I wish...I sort of wish Clara weren't so hell-bent on normal. I've been intrigued, since the first book, by the idea that she can understand any language the world over, and I'd have loved to see her play with that.

Overall: satisfying fluff.
