I'm sorry, book, it's not you, it's me.
My review is for no one, or maybe the few people who might find solace in the typical "I was supposed to like/love this but didn't", to no fault of the author or story. I think it was a poorly timed choice on my part to jump into this book and I was just not in the good mood to be able to enjoy it.
My main issue with it was I never really "got into it". As if the book and me were trying to connect but were always missing each other by a few seconds. I sometimes had trouble keeping up with what was happening weirdly enough. The character left me indifferent for the most part, even the ones I was supposed to vibe with. I don't think the songs helped either as I'm usally not the kind of reader who enjoy those.
The story is ingeniously crafted, and the world building is one of the authors's strenght. Maybe one day, I'll reread it to see if I can vibe with it more.
