King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

4.0

King of Scars fulfilled all expectations regarding characters. It brought back some of my favourites (the Bataar siblings and the Triumvirate) and expanded the web of relationships within the GrishaVerse. Having Nina Zenik as one of the main characters of this book was a pleasant surprise! I also love the way Bardugo connects the dots and how that decision allowed me to watch Nina evolve and continue to accept her new Corporalki power.

I didn’t expect the choices made regarding the consequences of Nikolai’s experience as a nichevo’ya– which I applaud. However, the plot was slower than those the GrishaVerse has accustomed us to, and the end of the book fell a little short. To me, the Darkling’s return seemed unnecessary and unoriginal.

Looking forward to learning what Rule of Wolves has in store.
