The Sin Eater's Daughter by Melinda Salisbury
5.0
Loved this dystopian fantasy where lies and deception, weaved around myth, are designed to keep a despotic, off the charts cruel, and totally crazy queen in power. Twylla has been tapped to be a part of the deception, executing anyone deemed a traitor with just a touch of her hands. She doesn't know this all fake of course. She is also destined to marry the prince and be the next queen.
As the story unfolds, we witness truth slowly cracking the armor, and Twylla is torn between all that she has been taught and the horrible nature of her assignment. A rival kingdom's citizen ordered to guard her creates more confusion, including a romantic attraction. And the prince himself, having seen the world beyond, adds another disturbance to the mix.
This story is a well written first person account of someone questioning loyalty and everything about her life. Even her mother's responsibilities toward the dead, which are quite unique, are examined. And I can't wait until the next installment appears.
