The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James

4.0

Despite being a product of its times, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and it's exploration of women, and how many slip from being "unique" and gifted girls into seemingly average and miserable adults. While Isabel might have been the first incarnation of a manic pixie dream girl (and a narrative prop for many of the other characters), it was still refreshing and interesting to read about her thoughts and bad decisions, no matter how illogical they were.
