Moonshadow's Guardian by Dianna Gunn

Disclaimer: I did get a free copy of story from the author when looking for early readers.

This book has some good moment and some fun world building but overall the pacing wasn't great which really dragged the whole thing down. That and all the Jacob's was kind of annoying for name choices, and I never cared about the main character during half of the flashbacks.

Really it felt like the book was written by someone who saw it as a movie. The flashbacks as a mechanism make more sense for a visual setting but in written form they were confusing as it was hard to figure out when in time things were happening. I also couldn't be made to care about any of the demon world stuff and the romance plot was formulaic.

It does work as a novel setting up more stories in the world but it felt like some of the big problem issues were solved too easily and quickly while the start of the book dragged on for too long without giving us much.

If you like light fantasy in a new setting with some unique touches then this works but it wasn't enough for me.
