La Mémoire de Babel by Christelle Dabos
2.0
I feel as if the quick takeaway after reading this one is "why?"
The first book was SO strong and the second was fun because of the added complexity of a mystery. But, this one felt like we forced the protagonist into school. And I kept going back to what was the motivation? To deal with "god," or to find Thorn, or to become a virtuoso (simply to prove that you are good enough). The writing is still good at building a world that you want to learn more about. But, I struggled understanding from the writing the motivations of almost all characters (not the antagonists of the protagonists--those made sense given the world that was established).
I also just feel so little was given to the attention that she literally has a NEW POWER. Which I was excited to hear about. I miss the characters of the previous books and the worlds that were built. But, alas, I suppose I'll continue on with dragging feet because I need to see if they actually will have anymore romance in the fourth (or maybe even some demonstrations of power).
