I'm glad I took a bite 🫦 out of this because this was very addictive to read. It was very wholesome and cute that it had me howling with delight. 🐺

Misery Lark is accustomed to being a pawn in her councilman father's schemes. But when her best friend goes missing and her only clue points to the Alpha of the Weres, Lowe Moreland, she accepts the marriage.

Deep in enemy territory, Misery finds that she has to team up with her Were-husband to get down to the bottom of things. Weres and Vampyres have many differences, but Misery finds that there may be compatibilitoes...

I loved this book for real! It snuck up on me. I'm honestly not like a huge huge fan of Ali Hazelwood post TLH (which was cute too) but I'm glad I took the chance.

Idk if this was old news but I'm also glad Ali Hazelwood grew out of the Adam Driver-esque men x "I so smol and quiRky" heroine. Cause Misery and Lowed were both tall! Lowe looks nothing like Adam Driver 🤣 so he's automatically hot! (No offense if you're a fan of Rat Boy revolution)

The details put into the differences between the Vampyres and the Were was so cool. I was eating up all the little characterizations like their blood color to their different cultural aspects. It's also a cool spin on vamps and weres in general to me.

I adored the humor in this book. Misery is a fascinating narrator as the sole POV.

Really, I loved Misery a lot. She's been through the wringer ever since she was little of never quite belonging anywhere between the humans, Vampyres, and Weres. 🥺 She comes off pretty aloof and sarcastic but I can't blame her after how she was treated most her life. Misery does care and she still is soft on the inside 🥺 I lived for the moments when she felt seen and had warm family moments with Lowe's pack.

She's also really smart too, but sometimes these obvious moments I'm like wanting to shake her (and Lowe) like "YALL. BONE. ALREADY." I also liked that she was a computer wiz! Really on brand for Ali Hazelwood to have a woman in STEM even in a PNR book 🤭

Lowe! Oh Lowe. He's amazing. The best Alpha and Werehusband. I loved the feralness of him when it came to Misery's *scent* 😛 He's literally so sweet and protective too. Ugh and he can do anything....except work computers bahaha. But seriously he got hotter by the second with all the little ways he cares for Misery and also his pack. He's self sacrificing 🥺 to the point where I also wanted to shake him into being more selfish. I also love a needy boi 😜🔥

The TENSION. The YEARNING. Phew. I was feeling hot and frustrated with these two bahaha. But really my heart couldn't take the overwhelming chemistry. 💖 I literally squealed at every hint, eye contact, touch, and finally when Lowe said some romantic ass shit. BAM.

The side characters: ate. Spotlight especially on Ana, Lowe's baby sister. And Alex, one of Lowe's seconds (I think? Well he's trusted.). Ana marched to the beat of her own drum. She was seriously so cute and I loved how she forced Misery  Miresy to be her friend. Misery tormenting Alex was always a highlight 🤣 poor dude.

The politics was also a subplot of this book and it was pretty dang fleshed out for the time we had. It was multipronged too with Were pack drama and also Vampyres-Human-Were issues too.

This book was totally enjoyable. There were some writing style moments I felt meh about, but the enjoyment factor was too high to not give it 5 stars!

And I'm excited about the ending. Sure I wanted more epilogue. But the little tidbit at the end? 🤭 I hope there's more to come from this world. But I would def read more PNR from Ali Hazelwood 🤩
