The Toll by Neal Shusterman

4.0

I really enjoyed this series. I was instantly sucked in by the fascinating and thought-provoking premise of Scythe, then found Thunderhead just ramped up the stakes and got better and better. The Toll suffered a little bit with something I personally struggle with in series and trilogies...when the first book focuses on two main characters and you really fall in love with them, but then latter books introduce new characters and you get a lot less story about the ones you originally loved. The most frustrating thing about The Toll was how little we get to see of the original characters from Scythe - in fact one of them spends most of the book being carted around like a sack of potatoes by various parties and doing nothing in particular. Despite that it was still a great read and the way it all tied up at the end felt right. I definitely recommend the trilogy!
