Seven Days in June by Tia Williams
5.0
What a treat to read this book during Black History Month and right before Valentine’s Day. A beautiful, thoughtful tale exploring what it takes to love another person, and more importantly, to love yourself. I laughed and cried at the highs and lows these characters experience on their intertwining paths.
I want to retweet to high heaven these lines from the author’s note: “Dramatic, glorious, everyday slices of life never starred Black characters. It always seemed that we had to suffer in art. It’s exhausting, and it’s not the only Black experience. We’re dazzling, and I wanted to show that.” I am thoroughly dazzled.
Thanks to my friend Sam for choosing this for me for my 2023 challenge, “12 Favorite Books from 12 Friends.”
