Flaubert's writing style, themes and motives are already present, even though he wrote it when only 15 years old!
The main character is most unlovable and even for big book fans of today not relatable - he represents a twisted, corrupted, "wrong" form of book lover (in my personal opinion) and lives a warning in this book. To me it says: love the word and not the paper it is printed on.
I cannot love the book because the character lacks some depths to me but it is no doubt a great book of literary history.
