I liked this more than the first Riftwar Saga books, but it shares their issue of episodic writing. It's noticeable when Act 3 starts, because suddenly there's momentum, instead of a new mini-story starting in each chapter.
Mara is more interesting than Pug, but I feel a bit burned out on all the manipulation, using people, and forcing them into honorable suicide. I gather I'm supposed to admire her cleverness and survival ability, but what I'm mostly feeling is the desire to read something else. Bailing out on the trilogy.
I gave him three books. Nothing terrible, I just don't think Feist is for me.
