Dyscalculia: A Love Story of Epic Miscalculation by Camonghne Felix

challenging dark emotional hopeful informative inspiring reflective tense fast-paced

Camonghne Felix has a unique, poetic writing style. I was immersed in the heartbreak of her journey to healing. The book pulls us in using humor to get through the despair. It was eye opening seeing how her childhood trauma manifested in her behaviors and her struggle to navigate treatment. Many misdiagnoses lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms as she struggled to get an accurate diagnosis.

I loved this quote so much. “What’s your book about? Heartbreak, romance, that kind of stuff. That’s it he asks, heartbreak? That’s it I say just heartbreak. Black girls get to write about benign heartbreak too. Proud and saccharine and pathetic. When you’re healed, you tell the story differently. I loved a man so hard it made me sick, I loved myself so hard I brought her back.”

I listened to the audio but will be reading a physical copy.
