Watership Down by Richard Adams

4.0

It took me about 100 pages to get into this book. At first I thought I wasn't going to be able to care about these rabbits and theirs lives. But once I got used to the world of warrens and silflays and elil, I found I cared a great deal. By the end, I was smiling and laughing with the little guys, feeling parentally proud of their accomplishments, and gritting my teeth as they put themselves into yet another dangerous position. And little Threar! He made me so happy.

Adams states in the introduction that he never intended this to be allegorical, but it seems he ended up with an allegory anyway. It was a little long, and I admit to skimming some of the many descriptions of the grasses and the smells, but all in all I really enjoyed this book.
