ultimately, a fun book with an interesting premise, but definitely not life-changing.

there is a lot of clunky writing, which may have you re-reading a sentence or two, but it is not horrible. it seems to be more of a stylistic choice when writing, and it seems like it’s part of the world building.

some of the traveling scenes seemed a bit gratuitous, lots and lots of traveling. if you like hiking, you might enjoy this one.

the characters were interesting—particularly Po & Bitterblue. Katsa has some issues, but who can blame her? there feels like a lot of ~I’m not line other girls~ writing which is very typical of this kind of YA fiction. hopefully this trend is dying lol.

I did not like the way that the author dealt with disabled characters in her story (this is towards the very end of the book), though I did appreciate her acknowledgement of this in the afterward.
