I’ve always been drawn to Greek mythology and deeply enjoyed Madeline Miller’s books and wanted to give this one a shot too. This was so much darker than I could have anticipated. It’s a fascinating story and held my interest, though it was a bit slow in the very beginning. My biggest qualm with this was a lack of content warning. Not everyone knows the myth of how and why Medusa was cursed. There was a graphic depiction of sexual assault that I was unprepared for. Regardless of this being fantasy, content warnings are essential. I also found the character of Euryales so unlikeable which made it hard to read her chapters sometimes.
Graphic: Rape, Sexual assault, and Sexual violence
Moderate: Suicidal thoughts and Suicide
