“Hey here’s a major plot point that’s going to solve the mystery at the end! We’ll even hint to the fact that it’ll solve the crime. BUT even though it’s a major part of our main character’s personhood, we are only gonna mention it like 3x...just enough you remember it exists, but not enough to make it a part of the story.”

The overall story was okay, but it was clear that the main character’s synesthesia was going to be a major plot point from the start, and it was discussed heavily at first....and then hardly ever mentioned again unless it moved the story forward. It felt like a convenient way to “find the killer,” so to speak.
