I'm Glad My Mom Died, by Jennette McCurdy

challenging dark emotional funny hopeful reflective sad fast-paced

4.0

I’m so glad I stopped professional acting in high school and then took another like 8 years to decide to be a professional actor for real as an adult then 4 years later I kinda quit acting but then I unquit acting to do a web series. I loved this book and it was very nice to read an unrelenting account of the way Hollywood behaves from someone from my generation. It had all my topics of interest: addiction, power abuse, sad little girls with abusive matriarchs. It was really relatable and reassuring to read in some ways, because it was like reading the extreme and more horrific version of some of my own industry experiences. It was also super fucking sad and trigger warning everything but I trusted the author throughout the process. I’m proud of her and look forward to book 2.
