To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

5.0

First-time reader, new-time fan! I am shocked that I made it 26 years of life without ever reading this or even really knowing what this book was about. Here are a few of my now debunked misconceptions:

1. Boo Radley is NOT the main character. I had no idea! Through the rumor-mill/grapevine of half-listened to discussions on classic American literature I incorrectly assumed that Boo was an 8-year old girl with a pet dog named Scout. Color me SHOCKED when this turned out to be untrue !!
2. Atticus Finch and Artemis Fowl are not the same person hehehe
3. About WAY more than just a trial. I 100% thought this would be like the play, Inherit the Wind, where it's all courtroom and no fun--but I was blessedly wrong.
4. Someone told me in 5th grade that this book was boring and I probably believed them. It's not boring. It's poignant and important and nuanced and clever and actually very, very funny. I loved it and am glad I finally read it--15 years late, but also maybe right on time.
