The Red Pony by John Steinbeck
2.0
The Red Pony by John Steinbeck is a collection of short stories revolving around Jody, a boy living on a ranch in Southern California. The red pony, as some of you might have guessed, does not live long, and it’s death teaches Jody about loss. By the end of this novel, Jody’s viewpoints on life have changed, and he’s no longer the naïve boy yearning to be a hero.
This is not my favorite John Steinbeck short story. My favorite would have to be The Pearl, which I read in eighth grade. It’s hard for me to stay interested in short stories where the plot doesn’t revolve around a single event or purpose. But I’m glad I checked this off my Steinbeck reading list!
