Poppy Redfern and the Midnight Murders by Tessa Arlen

1.0

Read to 50% and then hopped straight to the end. Poppy's a rather forgettable main character, and I didn't care for the stilted writing. There was a lot of weird slipping into present tense. "Audrey reached the shelf with ease; she is taller than I am..." etc. The author also tends to eschew contractions, resulting in stiff dialogue like "I am not scared" and "he is a strange man." People just don't talk that way. Not impressed.
