Part Of The Furniture by Mary Wesley

I really enjoyed this for its atmospheric quality. It's very strangely written, as if the author loses patience with her own narration, and this leads to some hilariously blunt passages, especially in the dialogue. It's still compelling however and you care about the fate of the protagonist, even if the ending is a bit disappointing.
