thank you so much to booksprout for providing me with a free digital arc of this book. i am leaving this review voluntarily and all opinions are my own.

this is my first time reading arden powell but certainly not my last. this book was an absolute delight. from the setting to the plot to the characters to the writing—i was in love from the very first page.

sebastian is one of the rare main characters who i loved from the very beginning. he is funny and confident, cunning and smart. but he is so much more beyond that as well. he is deeply haunted by his past, struggling to trust anyone but himself and his parther in crime, kitty. witnessing him open up to morgan and allowing himself to finally stay instead of constantly running away was so heartwarming and rewarding.

morgan... oh morgan. what an absolute gem. i loved him from the very second he was introduced. despite being closed-off and broody at first, he is such an endearing character. he's caring and creative, kind and simply a good person. watching him come out of his shell was great. i loved that he still kept his shy demeanour but also allowed himself to let lose a little.

the dynamic between the two main characters as well as the side characters was excellent. the build-up and development of their friendship and romance felt incredibly natural, as did their fights. their chemistry was off the charts, and every time sebastian pushed a little and morgan didn't pull away, i found myself giggling. i love it when romance books manage to make me truly root for the main couple. i truly hope this isn't the last time we get to see morgan and sebastian.

A THIEF AND A GENTLEMAN is a historical romance set in 1920s london with magic, a seductive thief haunted by ghosts of the past, and a closed-off artist hungry for a little more than what his day to day life has to offer. this book is perfect for everyone who wants to lose themself between the pages in a world so similar yet so different than our own. if you loved a marvellous light by freya marske, be sure to give this one a go as well.
