The Mixtape by Brittainy C. Cherry
5.0
4.75
This book was fantastic, I didn't expect myself to love it this much. I found it one random evening on Amazon and I just bought it. The plot and the characters in this book are an easy 5 star, the only reason it got a 4.75 was because I wanted more of Emery and Oliver together, together. I adored reading about them together as friends, learning about their past, seeing their growth and strength. It's incredibly inspiring.
This story is profound, it's about love, it's about grief, it's about set backs. It's about a mother love for her daughter. It's about climbing that mountain and reaching the top accepting what you had to go through to get there. The story was beautiful and emotional and funny.
I loved every second of Emery and Reese together, what a mother Emery is. Her softness and compassion makes you feel a connection to her immediately. What a great love. I'm completely in awe. Don't let me get started on Oliver's love for his brother and his parents. I might use this word too much but it was beautiful. I was instantly falling for him, his loss, his silence and his grief spoke to my heart and broke me into pieces. Reese, however, oh how happy I was that Reese existed. This little sunshine kid made me smile. She was a little comic relief when it got a little too emotional. She was everything, a little delight. The relationship that grew between her and Oliver made me so incredibly happy.
Read this book and fall in love with Emery, Reese and Oliver.

“Everyone’s life story is a mixtape, and each track is a chapter of their life. Some chapters are happy, and others are sad, but they are all entangled to create that person’s mixtape.
...You’re my favorite song on my mixtape.”

“Healing doesn’t walk a linear line; it takes the messy route. I believe that healing comes during both the dark days and the bright ones. It’s not all rainbows. Sometimes healing means slicing open the scars that made you hurt so much before and examining them to fully understand yourself. Why did the cut hurt you in the past? How did it change you into who you are today? What can we learn from the pain of your yesterdays to better your tomorrows?"
