The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis

5.0

page 174.
lyric and lovely. it's easy to get drawn into both the book's prose and the fantasy parallel of abel's storytelling within. loving.

this ended up being darker than i had initially expected. darker as in, beyond fairy tales. the parallels, by the way, between abel's story telling and the actual events of the novel itself are fascinating. this book had so many layers. it messed with my mind - in a good way - and kept me guessing, literally, until the very end.

it broke my heart a couple of times... spoiler:

Spoiler there was one scene of dub con turned sexual assault that completely caught me off guard and, like is aid, broke my heart. this could be a trigger for some.

and...explosive ending.

still, i loved it. it ended up being more mature and intense than i'd thought. good read indeed.
