Incredible warmth. I’d firmly place this in the children’s literature category rather than young adult, mainly due to the lack of dialogue. I don’t think that necessarily takes away from the story though, as the illustrations are impossibly beautiful.

A child may not understand the concept of ‘noir,’ obviously, but I think this is one of those books that makes for a pleasant out-loud reading experience before bedtime. Both words and pictures are simple enough for a child to understand, but again, I don’t think that necessarily diminishes any of the good.

Took me maybe 30 minutes tops to flip through, and that includes stopping and dwelling on the illustrations that resonated with me most. Looking forward to discussing this in my children’s lit class next week.
